The Supervisory Board of the Port of Gdańsk Authority SA appoints a vice-president for finance

Alan Aleksandrowicz, former vice-mayor of Gdańsk and recently President of the Management Board of the Gdańsk Economic Development Agency, joins the Port of Gdańsk. He has become Vice-President of the Management Board for finance, and will take up his position on 20 May 2024.

The company’s Supervisory Board, at its meeting on 26 April, passed a resolution to elect a vice-president for finance following a qualification procedure. It appointed Alan Aleksandrowicz, a lawyer by training, a graduate of the University of Gdańsk, and previously President of the Management Board of the Gdańsk Economic Development Agency (InvestGDA). He co-founded the American School of Law, a joint venture of the Faculty of Law and Administration at the University of Gdańsk and the Illinois Institute of Technology Chicago-Kent College of Law.

He has worked in the field of economy almost from the beginning of his professional career, starting in 1994 at the Centre for Advice and Experts’ Reports of the Self-Governmental Assembly of the Pomorskie Province, and then at the Municipal Office in Gdańsk in various positions, including Head and Deputy Director of the Department of Economic Policy. He was also Deputy Director of the Department of Civil Affairs and Foreigners in the Pomorskie Province Office.

From 1999 to 2003 he was a vice-consul and head of the legal department at the Consulate General of the Republic of Poland in Chicago. From 2004 to 2009 he managed the Gdańsk Business Service Centre. He initiated the establishment of Gdańska Agencja Rozwoju Gospodarczego Sp. z o.o. (InvestGDA), and later twice served as its president. In the meantime, he was the vice-mayor of Gdańsk for 3 years, dealing with investments for example. In May 2022, he once again became president of InvestGDA. The Agency’s main task is the commercialisation and economic activation of investment areas located in strategic places around the city – also in the immediate vicinity of the Port of Gdańsk.

The new Vice-President of the Port of Gdańsk Authority is also the chairman of the Association of Maritime Cities and Municipalities and the Gdańsk Entrepreneurship Council supported by the Mayor of the City of Gdańsk. He has received numerous awards, including the ‘Centenary of Independence’ medal, the award of the Minister of Economy ‘For Merits to the Development of the Economy of the Republic of Poland’, and the Pomorskie employers’ award ‘For Merits to the Employers of Pomorskie’.

It should be borne in mind that on 26 March the Supervisory Board of the Port of Gdańsk Authority, as a result of the qualification procedure, appointed Dorota Pyć, Ph.D., Head of the Department of Maritime Law at the University of Gdańsk, as president of the Port, and Krzysztof Kaczmarek as vice-president for infrastructure.
