New leadership appointed for the Port of Gdańsk Authority SA
Dorota Pyć, Ph.D., Head of the Department of Maritime Law at the University of Gdańsk, has been elected to the position of President of the Port of Gdańsk. She has been associated with the Port of Gdańsk since 2019 – as a member of the Supervisory Board of PGA on behalf of the City of Gdańsk. Krzysztof Kaczmarek, who served as interim president, has been appointed to the position of vice-president for infrastructure. They will take up their positions on 27 March.
Resolutions on the election of the members of the Management Board of PGA, as a result of the qualification procedure, were adopted on 26 March by the company’s Supervisory Board. The position of vice-president for finance was left vacant. The company’s Supervisory Board completed the qualification procedure inconclusively.
Dorota Pyć completed her law degree at the University of Gdańsk. She obtained the academic degrees of LL.D. and Ph.D. in Law (major: public international law) at the Faculty of Law and Administration of the University of Gdańsk.
She has been associated with her Alma Mater since 1995 – initially as a PhD candidate in the Department of Maritime Law, and then as an assistant professor in the Department of Public International Law. She has been the head of the Department of Maritime Law since 2014.
However, her professional career path has not been associated only with the university. She had the opportunity to use her knowledge of maritime law in the position of Undersecretary of State at the Ministry of Transport, Construction and Maritime Economy, then at the Ministry of Infrastructure and Development, where she was responsible for the maritime economy. She left office after the 2015 change of government.
From 2008 to 2019 she was a member of the Maritime Law Codification Committee. She has been an arbitrator of the International Court of Arbitration at the National Chamber of Maritime Economy in Gdynia since 2018. Since 2022 she has been the director of the Research Centre for the Marine Economy at the University of Gdańsk and the head of the postgraduate course, ‘Education for Sustainable Development: offshore wind energy’. She is active in the Committee for the Implementation of the Policy of Social Responsibility of Science at the University of Gdańsk, Fahrenheit University Women’s Club, which she founded.
The scientific output of the new President of the Port of Gdańsk includes scientific works in the field of maritime law, sea law and law of protection of the marine environment and sustainable development. She is the author or co-author of more than 150 original scientific articles and chapters in books, 2 monographs, commentaries to acts and glossaries, and editor of more than 20 publications.
